Vancouver Heritage Foundation
The Vancouver Heritage Foundation supports the conservation
of Vancouvers heritage buildings because they are important
cultural assets of our city. Through public awareness and
education activities, incentive programs, and by advising,
supporting and generally working with people who want to undertake
conservation projects, the Foundation is making a difference
to the neighbourhoods and streetscapes of our city.
In addition to fundraising to build up an endowment
to protect heritage buildings into the future, the VHF has
a wide array of public programs.
- TRUE COLOURS, an exterior paint program in
partnership with corporate sponsor, Benjamin Moore Paints.
Selected heritage homes throughout the city are painted
in authentic and original colours. The Historical Vancouver
True Colours colour card, showing the palette of 35 new
locally named heritage colours is available in Benjamin
Moore retailers.
- RESTORE IT! a program giving incentives for
the restoration of the exterior fabric of designated heritage
houses. Projects such as the repair of masonry, windows,
porches, roofs and siding are funded.
- OPEN VANCOUVER: Annual Heritage House Tour
for 2000 Vancouverites to tour inside a selection of unique
heritage homes; and Sacred Sites a self guided tour of a
selection of churches, temples and cathedrals.
- Undertake special projects such as the moving
and restoration of one of downtown Vancouvers last
remaining lane houses.
- Workshops and printed technical information
pamphlets for heritage homeowners and professionals demonstrating
good restoration techniques for wood windows, porches stairs
and railings, painted wood surfaces and stained glass.
